FISH OIL IS WORKING!

I recently wrote of our concern for Jameson and his speech.  His is receiving Speech Therapy through First Steps.  Our fantastic therapist recommended a book called, The Late Talker (by Algin) and it was changed our son's life.

The most important and effective information we acquired from the book was from Chapter 8.  It spoke of the value of fish oil supplements.

Immediately after I finished the book, I went to Good Earth (a local organic store in Broad Ripple that has EVERYTHING good for you!).

I chose, from the MANY options, this Coromega - an orange flavored individual packaged supplement that is packed with DHA, GLA, EPA, Omega-3 and fish oil.
Jameson started this supplement in late May.

Today - the boy is speaking in 3 word phrases all the time. (the only one he could say 2 weeks ago was Thank you, mom...
He is giving directions -
Mama cookie now (then, after saying "what do you say") please (peas)
Bye Bye (fill in many names!)
Roll Roll Roll
Mommy lay down
Ready Go

And he is clearly (using good sounds) saying
Yes
No
House
Okay
Oh No

I have been telling about this phenomenon to everyone I know with a child with speech issues - and guess what....Good Earth is sold out of their Coromega!
I know it has nothing to do with me...but others are seeing it's value too!

I am excited that the light switch is turning on in our son...he is getting his voice!

Happiness Project (May)

Well, I've kind of fallen off the Happiness Project rocker, per se.
May has come and gone and although I am still doing most of my pre-set goals for "every" month - laundry every day, break ice into ice maker, open bible (note: open vs read, sometimes that's as much as I can do), proof of love to Joe (which is usually self serving as well, making coffee in the morning)...
I am no longer tracking my stats - which the book emphasizes is the best way to stay on task...well, I was tired of printing out the darn page and re-writing all those goals, which exponentially have added up now that we are 6 months into 2011...oh well...I'm still happy!  :)

May focus was MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS.

Let's just say making "time" was used loosely....May is a ridiculously crazy busy month...end of school...beginning of spring....Mother's Day...travelled to Ohio to visit a friend...teacher appreciation week...ugghhh

So, altough it was rare that I SPENT time with any of my friends (alone atleast!), I DID pray for them often....and I sent out Mother's Day cards to my friends with kids - but that was about it....which I am disappointed in my efforts, but realistic about what I can and can't do anymore.

When it comes down to it, having 4 kids means someone is burdened if I want to do something for myself (with a friend, specifically)...so instead, I turned inward - prayer and notes.

The one dear friend I did get to spend time with was my friend Shelley who just had a baby.  She still lives in the town where we grew up and I've known her as long as I've lived....our moms were best friends...I took Jackson, just Jackson! and drove to Ohio for the weekend - it was so great.  I had totally forgotten what it was like to have only 1 child...yet, was reminded, by being with Shell, how difficult the transition to being a mom is...always is...everytime you have a child...it was a wonderful time away.

Made me happy.

I only spent a few nights writing in my 1 sentence journal...like I said, I've fallen of the rocker...

5/15/11  Asked for popcorn during America's Funniest Home Videos....no one was listening...Jameson came up and sweetly handed me 1 small piece of popcorn and went and sat back down with his brother and sister - then he turned back to me and smiled :)

5/16/11  I worry about immunizations...JT had his 6 month apt and I fear he'll wake up one morning and never smile his sweet smile again.

5/18/11  I LOVE MY NEW KITCHEN FLOOR!!!

My focus for June is BE SERIOUS ABOUT PLAY
So far, so good!  Kicked off the month with a family trip to Caribean Cove Water Park, have ventured to the pool with all 4 kids multiple times and as you can see from the blog posts - sprinkler, PBS Kids in the Park and much more to come!
Now, if only I could get back on that rocker -
-READ the bible
-WRITE DAILY in my 1 Sentence Journal
-catch up on Wordless Wednesday photos

My unexpected book for the month was "The Late Talker"...more on that in a separate blog post :)

Happy June!

Joe, Megan, Joey, Morgan, Jameson and Baby Jackson!

Happiness Project (April)

Well, this is much delayed, but April went well!
April was an extended Parenting focus and I got a few more books in...
Many helpful insights

A few of my 1 Sentence Journal entries from April were:
4/11/11  Why do I feel guilty when I want to do something for me? (a night out with friends or a women's book study)

4/13/11  I am SO thankful for friendship.  What a gift.  I am so blessed.

4/16/11  Joe gave me a birthday card today - He DOES notice! (I'm not invisible!) :)

4/26/22  I really miss Joe when he is out of town - can't sleep, think crazy thoughts about someone breaking in...I just feel so safe when he's next to me.

My MAY focus is: MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS
Joe, Megan, Joey, Morgan, Jameson and Baby Jackson!

PBS Kids in the Park

Well, what a fun day PBS Kids in the Park was!
Although, note to self, either go as soon as it starts or right before it ends, because arriving at 12 noon was a bit too busy!
Let's just say, ALL the PBS characters were there - Word Girl, Super Why, Buddy, Clifford, Princess Pea, Arthur, Martha, and many more....BUT... the lines were SO LONG that the best "mascots" we could get photos with were....well....

The Chic Fil A Cow

The Kool Aid Man

and the Keebler Elf

What WAS worth our time to wait in line for were the bounce house/slides! The kids had so much fun on them!

And, Joe was out of town that day (usually it's a family tradition), but thankfully my friend (whose husband was working) was up for going it solo with our kids...all did surprisingly well...I think I will always have a little fear of losing one of them or needing a 3 and/or 4th arm to get one of them to comply (Jameson)...but all in all, it was an awesome day!

See.... :)

We'll definitely be back next summer!
Joe, Megan, Joey, Morgan, Jameson and Baby Jackson!
